Solo Work
Debut solo album Superpowers was released in June 2015. Since then The Spider Collective has been formed, a 10-piece ensemble, as the vehicle to perform Donal’s songs.
With folk music at his roots it is as a songwriter and solo performer where Donal feels most at home. Performing and writing from his mid-teens, he has amassed hundreds of songs that crossover many genres, often taking influence from soul, jazz, punk, country, blues and traditional music.
Lyrically a very honest songwriter, tackling a wide variety of topics, from politics to relationships to the death of a pet goldfish. His songs can be wrapped in wonderful imagery and storytelling, other times direct, blunt and to the point, sometimes clever, occasionally funny, and often challenging.
